Kyle Collins
A High State, 2006
"A High State," Kyle Collins' hand-crafted book of skateboard photographs extracted from his community, captures those moments where a human body is balanced at the limits of gravity, momentum and posture. Because these are all original prints in a unique context, this artifact represents something of the actual passing of time during the execution of a trick. Its shattered and frayed form echoes the ripped jeans and cavalier attitude of the culture and the steady one grind at a time erosion of the urban landscape itself, linking the singular vision that skateboarders employ: a precise flow of measurements that constantly relate position, trajectory and improvisation to the rails, curbs and obstacles of the city.
